Project Nurture supports the appointment of Islam subject teachers to non-Muslim schools where Muslim students are enrolled but qualified Islam subject teachers have not been appointed or are temporarily unavailable.
The project helps ensure that students have access to the religious education available to them within the national school system.
How the Project Works
- Schools with an identified Islam subject teacher shortage are verified with the relevant education authorities.
- Suitable teachers are interviewed and selected in coordination with relevant officials.
- Donor support is mobilized to provide monthly financial assistance for teacher placements.
- Teacher appointments and school placements are formally coordinated.
- The continuity of teaching and the benefits to students are monitored.
Project Objectives
- Provide students with continuous access to Islam subject education.
- Support schools facing shortages of qualified teachers.
- Create a responsible partnership between education authorities, donors and communities.
- Develop a sustainable teacher-support model that can be expanded.
